Article - Modern Technology : useful or not

Technology: useful or not

Modern technology nowadays has developed in such way to save our time and money. There are many machines and devices that people use in their everyday life. Take for instance the phone.
Today, the phone is incorporated with what we need the most. It has internet, TV, radio and it is even a camera. The thing is that if you need any of these things, you don’t need to carry them all at once with you, not to mention the fact that some of them can’t even fit in a pocket. You save more energy buy only using one device for everything you need. Also, cars are a very useful invention. You travel fast from one place to another and whenever you want. It is more convenient than traveling by train or bus.
Although technology helps us, there are some inventions that we can live without. For example, the dishwasher can be left aside. You can wash the dishes by hand and if you are organized, you don’t have that much work to do. Also, the digital watch is not that useful. The light can be annoying at times and you can’t fall asleep because of it. We can use the normal watch because there are not many people that want to see what time it is during the night.
Technology helped our world to develop and make our everyday life easier. The more we use it, the more we have a chance to improve it.

Letter of advice to a friend

Dear Jake,

I have read your letter and I must say, it is a good idea to improve your English by attending this studies. It would be better if you ask from the beginning for more information regarding this school and what it offers.
You should ask where this school is exactly located and how to get there. It says it is a half an hour away from London but it doesn’t even give you the city’s name. Since you are new to the country, you should be given direction of how to get to the school. Another problem with this advertisement is that it doesn’t contain specific information about accommodation. You should ask if you are allowed to bring your family or at least one family member with you. I personally don’t understand what a small class means. They should specify how many people are in a classroom, how long does a class last and how much time does everyone has for them. Another thing that should be asked is what level the English class is at. It is very essential for such thing to be known if you want to improve. It should be mentioned what recreational facilities are in the area and what is the timetable for everyone mentioned.
I hope you have a pleasant stay in Britain and I hope I helped you by giving my views on this subject. If you need anything else, don’t be shy and ask me. Please let me know what your decision is.
All the best,
Rose

Article - Are young people being forced to grow up too fast?

A young people's magazine has asked its readers to submit articles on the question: "Are young people being forced to grow up too fast?" Write your article for the magazine.

Child or Young Adult?

Are young kids too mature for their age? Do they grow up too fast? This is a question asked by many parents and elder people nowadays.
Now, people think that youngsters grow faster in our time then back in the day. With the new technology surrounding us and the influence the media has upon our kids, we see this as a truth. The fact is that they don’t grow faster, they only catch up with technology much faster than older people. It is a know fact that you learn more and faster while you are young and it becomes difficult to do such things when you are grown up. If they learn how to use them it doesn’t necessarily mean that they are not kids anymore. This will help them later on in life since the knowledge of technology is required in most jobs.
The media has some negative influence on our kids. The people that appear on TV or that are shown in magazines are not the role models that our children should follow. They think that if they show a 15 year old girl wearing makeup and dressing like mature women is the way things should be. They start acting and wanting to be like them.
I think that children are not forced to grow up, they just do what they want and learn everything from an early age. There are some bad influences that should be avoided, but other than that, they still do activities that their parents did when they were young.
